Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Huron is pleased to announce that it was granted Accreditation for having successfully met the review of standards outlined by the national governing body, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada (BBBSC).  The Accreditation process has been in existence for more than twenty-five years to continually ensure maximum child safety, and positive social and health outcomes of BBBS youth mentoring programs delivered by member agencies across the country.

The Accreditation certificate is granted upon approval of agency practices in the areas of child safety, service delivery, and organizational excellence.  Organizational excellence includes a consultative process with agency volunteers, parents and board members, assurance of sound fiscal management practices, and agency strategic planning.

The national Accreditation program is conducted by professionally trained accreditors who must complete Accreditation training provided by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada.  Each BBBSC member agency is Accredited every five years.  Agencies also participate in a mid-term evaluation as an interim measure ensuring adherence to National Standards and organizational excellence.

Anyone who has gone through the accreditation process appreciates the time, work, co-operation and imagination necessary to satisfy the criteria required by the accreditors. Every Big Brother Big Sister agency in Canada must be accredited every five years to maintain its charter.

We just received word that last month our Agency received full accreditation for five years. We are proud of that accomplishment because it reflects both our commitment to provide young boys and girls with social opportunities that they might not have without us and the confidence that the National Association has in our employees and volunteers.

It is appropriate at this time to ask you to join us and think about becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister – there are 24 kids waiting for you to mentor them for as little as an hour a week.  We’d also like to thank you for your continued financial support of all our projects and fund-raising events.

Bruce Shaw – Executive Director – Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Huron
