Why I love being a "Big"
An Ode to Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Huron from one of our amazing Big Sisters Krista!
I love being a "Big" because (a) my Little Sister actually thinks I'm cool...and we all know I'm really not. It's great! (b) She lets me act like an 11 year old again - and this always comes in handy when being an adult is getting tiring. (c) She gives me a logical excuse for listening to, and having a crush on Justin Beiber... she may make fun of me for it, but, she loved him too so we're even on that one. (d) She loves me, no matter what. I hardly have to do a thing... As long as we're hanging out, she's happy - and when she's happy, so am I.
I became a Big thinking I was going to make a difference in someone's life - turns out someone made a difference in mine instead! If you're looking for a new best friend, become a Big!
Mentoring is about the power of friendship. The volunteers and young people in our programs experience the magic of everyday moments when they are shared with a friend. Everyone needs someone to laugh with, share a dream with, and just hang out... with friends it's the little things that mean the most.
We currently have 12 Little Brothers waiting for a Big Brother, 2 Little Sisters waiting for a Big Sister and 5 Mentees waiting for an In School Mentor
